The Video Platform Grants The Community Authority to Decrease Artificial Intelligence-Made Videos in Their Feeds

Users will soon have a fresh option that allows them to cut down on the amount of AI-created videos appearing in their feeds. This initiative comes as the service disclosed that it now features more than 1 billion AI videos.

Pilot Phase and Launch

The new functionality is in a pilot phase over the coming weeks before a widespread launch. This shift coincides with a rise in content created by AI, spurred by emerging AI video creators.

AI Proliferation Online

Recent reports that almost a tenth of the most rapidly expanding content creators on a competing service only show AI-generated videos. A considerable share of this content is classified as “AI slop”, a label for poor-quality, bulk-generated content that is frequently illogical or dreamlike.

“We know from our community that numerous viewers like content produced via AI tools, from AI artwork to informative clips, and we want to provide users the option to increase or decrease of that, depending on their own likes,” stated a company executive.

AI on the Platform

TikTok disclosed that there are presently over a billion videos on its service labeled as AI-generated. Overall, over 100 million media items are submitted to the platform every day, making AI-generated material a minor percentage of its overall inventory.

How to Adjust Settings

Users will be able to decrease or raise the level of AI-generated videos they watch by using the content preference setting in the app and picking AI-made media. Additional categories that currently be adjusted under the filter include news, style, cosmetics, and dance.

Content Labeling and Policies

TikTok’s rules require content makers to tag “realistic” AI-made content, and it prohibits harmful deepfakes of public figures or crisis events. Any believable AI video that is not labeled can be removed under its community policies.

Additionally, the platform will from now on attach an “AI-made” label to content produced via its own AI tools, or identified by an industry-wide initiative for spotting content made by AI. This action is designed to stop users from attempting to circumvent the labeling process.

AI Literacy Programs

The platform is also launching a $2 million awareness program for experts and institutions to create informative material about responsible artificial intelligence. This project will support charitable organizations specializing in training coding and technology.

Moderation Strategy

The platform has supported its moderation strategy, amid debate over proposals to make redundant numerous review team members in the UK. It is planning to eliminate a significant number of roles in its content moderation division in the UK capital, with labor groups and digital protection specialists expressing worry that humans are being replaced by automated systems.

A company official explained that staff-based oversight would remain essential, but AI can shield workers by filtering out the most distressing content ahead of it has to be seen by humans. The platform stated a significant reduction in shocking and graphic content seen by safety staff over the previous year due to reliance on its machine learning processes.

“We think that it’s essential to balance staff and AI to maintain a secure environment,” the executive stated. “We’ll have people as involved in the system, but we also think it’s very important to limit contact with unsafe media as rapidly, which is where a lot of the machine support is making a difference work at speed.”
